Brendan Steele Defends Safeway Open Title

With the season reopening at the Safeway Open, there was a lot of buzz around Phil Mickelson’s appearance rolling off of his momentum at the Presidents Cup but, defending his title, Brendan Steele took the win at-15 leaving Mickelson in 3rd.

Steele started the Napa Valley tournament two shots behind the leader, Tyler Duncan, on Sunday but took control with three birdies on the front nine. A couple bogeys on the back kept him tight with Tony Finau and Mickelson down the stretch but a birdie on 16 and 18 sealed the third win of his career.

With his first top 3 finish in a year, Phil continues his season in China and says that his game is finally in a place where he can win championships.
