Brooks Koepka Wins Japan’s Dunlop Phoenix Event by 9 Shots

Brooks Koepka took Japan by storm as he grabs a Tiger-esque win by 9 shots over the runner-up group at the Japan Tour’s Dunlop Phoenix Event.

After shooting a 20 under-par for the week, he was within one shot of the tournament record.

Hideki Matsuyama’s final round started off with a charge as he birdied number two and aced number three but the next eight holes played at three over par netted him a 69 and a lone fifth place finish.

“I feel there’s a huge gap between us,” Matsuyama said. “I don’t know whether it’s a lack of practice or whether I lack the strength to keep playing well,” Matsuyama said. “It seems there are many issues to address.”

The win was his first since the U.S. Open and it earned Koepka the number 7 spot on the World Golf Rankings.
