DJ’s “Long” Motivational Phone Call to Koepka
Late Tuesday Afternoon buddies Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka set out on a practice round together getting their final bearings for what Erin Hills was about to throw at them. After a 75-73 start, World No. 1, DJ, missed the cut and Brooks went on to land one shot off the lead after Saturday’s round.
Sitting back in anticipation for the Sunday finish, Koepka received a call from DJ. “He watched me play. I thought I played pretty solid on Tuesday. And he said he was pulling for me and just hang in there. It will happen,” Brooks said about the conversation.
Koepka woke-up Sunday morning and shot 67 to win the tournament by four strokes. When asked about the details of the phone call, he said: “I mean there’s probably not that much that’s that interesting to be honest,” he smiled. “It was a long phone call. For us it was like two minutes, it wasn’t much.”
Men of few words but incredible talent.
Looks like Koepka will be bumped up from 22nd to 10th in the world and creeping up on his pal DJ.
