Mickelson and “Bones” Call it Splits After 25 years
The relationship between a player and his caddie can be considered almost poetic when watching the ups and downs that they both endure during a career. None, however, are as poetic as Phil Mickelson and his looper Jim “Bones” Mackay who recently split in a decision stated to be a “mutual separation”.
A statement sounding similar to a marriage divorce, the pair have been together for an unprecedented 25 years covering 41 wins including all five major championship victories, 11 Ryder Cups and 11 Presidents Cups.
The Mackays and Mickelsons have developed close family relationships over the years as Bones was introduced to his wife Jen by her best friend Amy, Phil’s wife.
“He has been one of the most important and special people in my life since the day we met, and I will always be grateful for everything he has done for me. Amy and I, and our children, will always think of Bones, Jen, Oliver, and Emma as family. We are looking forward to sharing life and friendship with them forever.”
Phil’s younger brother Tim will be carrying his bag for the rest of the season.
