Patton Kizzire’s First PGA Tour Win at Mayakoba

The beautiful Mayakoba Resort in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico hosted the Tour last week for the OHL Classic and Sunday’s finish didn’t disappoint as Rickie Fowler chased down Patton Kizzire to the final hole.

Weather delays plagued the tournament and led to a 36-hole finish on Sunday in soft conditions. Fowler, one shot off the lead heading into the final round, stumbled through the front nine with a couple bogeys as Kizzire stayed steady. Trailing by four shots with six to play, Rickie turned it up with a birdie on 16 and 17 to trim his lead to one. Kizzire’s wayward drive on 18 left him with an awkward stance for his approach that left him with a long birdie putt. The door seemed to be open for Fowler to put one tight but his second shot didn’t cut and left him with a lengthy birdie putt which he left short. Kizzire’s two-putt was enough for his first PGA Tour win.

“It means a lot, I’m pretty excited right now, pretty emotional and I was glad to get it done. Rickie made me work hard,” Kizzire said.
