Rookie Cameron Davis Takes Aussie Open

The Emirates Australian Open hosted a field largely comprised of Aussies but also had British Open winner Jordan Speith on hand to battle it out with Jason Day and his countrymen.

Even with a couple of the game’s best in the field, Cameron Davis earned his first big win after a tough year on the Canadian Tour. The 22-year old made three birdies on the front nine and then birdied 10, eagles 12 and birdied 18 to leave him at 11 under par and a one shot lead over Jonas Blixt.

Jason Day started off the day with a one shot lead but faded in the final round and finished with a -8 fifth place finish.

“I always felt like if I play my very best golf I’d be able to compete (on the PGA TOUR),” Davis said.

This win give Davis his slot at The Open at Carnoustie.
