U.S.A. Takes 2017 Solheim Cup Under Leader Juli Inkster
After a record upset on home turf four years ago in Colorado, Team USA was eager to get back in the winners circle in Wes Des Moines, Iowa this past week.
Walking into Sunday with a commanding 10.5 to 5.5 lead, the teams halved their singles matches to give the USA a 16.5 to 11.5 victory over Team Europe.
Lizette Salas clinched victory with a one up win over Jodi Ewart Shadoff.
“To secure the point that wins us the Solheim Cup is unbelievable,” said Salas. “My hands were shaking. This is really special.”
This win marked Team USA’s 10th win in the 15 years of Solheim Cup history.
“The Europeans fought hard today and made it really close,” said US captain Juli Inkster who joined Judy Rankin as the only women to captain back-to-back winning US Solheim Cup teams. “I really haven’t been nervous all week but today I was a little bit. It’s an honour to captain this team and I’m really proud of the girls.”
