Weekend Winner: Brooks Koepka Wins at Erin Hills
The highly anticipated fescue didn’t disappoint at Erin Hills but the weekend was dotted with more than just long grass. A blimp flying over the course deflated, caught fire and plummeted to the ground like the Hindenburg, Traces of E. coli were found in the drinking water stations and a 94-year-old spectator unfortunately passed away in the grandstands on the 6th green.
To top it all off, world number 1, DJ, missed the cut along with Jason Day and Rory after two disappointing days, and world #22, Brooks Koepka, won the tournament matching the US Open record low score of -16 for the week.
In only his second win on the PGA Tour, Koepka has been labeled an underachiever amongst his peers after six years of play. Peers like DJ, Rory, Fowler and Speith make it tough to shine through but the term “underachiever” implies that he had the skill to match up. This past weekend he certainly did as took the cup with a 4-shot buffer.
Congrats on the win Brooksie!
