Weekend Winner: Kyle Stanley With Second Tour Win at Quicken Loans

Another dramatic finish as the Quicken Loans National comes to a close in overtime to crown a winner.

Starting the day four shots off the lead at TPC Potomac, Kyle Stanley and Charles Howell were paired together in the fourth to last grouping. Both turning on the jets early in the round lead them to the top of the leaderboard and with a share for the lead on the 18th green where Howell edged the cup for birdie and the potential win.

A playoff ensued where both players found trouble off of the tee and missed the green on their approach shots. Howell’s chip came up short and he missed his 11-foot par-putt and Stanley chipped to 5 feet and rolled his putt in for par and the win.

Stanley’s previous win was at the Phoenix Open in 2012 and his game has struggled ever since, bottoming out at no. 683 in 2015.

“I wish I didn’t cry so much, to be honest,” he said. “It just feels good to put the work in and see the rewards. I think that’s where most of the emotion’s coming from.”
